Devil's Tower
I had a lot of luck making this image. When I got there it was in the middle of a downpour. I
drove around looking for a good place to set up while it rained. I was fortunate to find this
spot. The cameras were about 20 feet apart. One of the difficulties of doing hyper-stereos is
that you have to find a spot where you can set up the cameras so that they are the right distance
apart, are perpendicular to the lens axis, and are the same elevation. Meeting all of these
conditions at the same time at the site of an interesting scene is difficult to put it mildly.
I shot this one in regular black and white film as well as IR, but perferred the darker sky
and lighter trees that the IR gave. This image has won several awards in Photographic Society
of America competitions.
